Marjorie: Improved Strength
Marjorie, 77, was admitted to Kindred Hospital Pittsburgh for continued care following hospitalization at a short-term acute care hospital for pulmonary insufficiency, a condition where the pulmonary valve is not strong enough to prevent backflow into the right ventricle. A left ankle fracture and her deconditioned status further complicated Marjorie’s hospital course.
Upon Marjorie’s admission to Kindred Hospital, our physicians and interdisciplinary team of nurses, therapists and specialists evaluated her and began a treatment plan tailored to her complex medical needs. Physical and occupational therapy were initiated immediately to remedy Marjorie’s difficulty standing, transferring, and performing activities of daily living.
Through the diligent work of the Kindred team, Marjorie made vast improvement in her physical strength and abilities. At the time of her discharge to an acute rehabilitation hospital, Marjorie was standing with contact guard assist and completing self-care with minimal assistance.
Kindred Hospital Pittsburgh’s success in our endeavor to provide quality care is apparent in stories like this as well as in our quality scores – patients and families rate our quality of care at over 96 percent.
